What guitar scales to learn first?
Well the most common scale to learn first is the Minor Pentatonic Scale. That’s the one that I recommend that you start with and it is included in my beginners course. Once you have that one down (and can use it) then you should explore the Major Scale.
Does practicing scales help guitar?

How fast should I practice scales?
Get up to a reasonable speed in Pattern 1 (like 16th notes at 120bpm) before moving onto any other scale positions. A really fast speed is 4 notes per metronome click at 160bpm. A good target speed for general playing is 140bpm, only speed metal rockers will need to play much faster than that.
Why should I learn pentatonic scales?
The pentatonic scale is the foundation for almost every other scale there is. Learning this foundation will set you up to easily play the other scales. Especially the blues scale, natural minor scale, harmonic minor scale, and the melodic minor scale. It will increase your confidence in playing dramatically.
Should I learn minor or major pentatonic?
Pentatonic/blues is a good first scale to learn if you just want to get playing. Then if you want to take your knowledge further, the minor scale is only two extra notes, and it gives you access to all of the above and a whole world more. I would suggest a major scale.
